Deddington Church
Deddington PCC statement of purpose

Deddington PCC encourages each other, and all church members, to grow in faith.
We endeavour to enable our Church to play its part in God’s mission and ministry to His world, caring for the resources He has provided and setting an example to others who use our Church.

We support our clergy by sharing leadership of the Church, ensuring compliance with all legal matters whether charitable or ecclesiastical, and caring for both buildings and churchyards. We consult and communicate with the wider Church through its synodical structures both locally and nationally on matters that affect our Church.

Our main purpose is to serve God, serve and care for one another and create an environment where this can be sustained.

Deddington Church Who’s who

PictureRevd. Annie Goldthorp.
Revd. Annie has been Vicar in Deddington, with the Barford’s, Hempton and Clifton since February 2015. Her claim to fame is that she was the first female apprentice employed by Land Rover Ltd back in 1976, so she clearly enjoys taking on roles traditionally thought of as being for men! Annie has one son who is now married, and her constant companion these days, other than God obviously, is her Springer Spaniel Bertie.

PictureMeriel Flux
Meriel is third generation Deddingtonian. Having taken early retirement Meriel now keeps herself busy as Church Warden, as well as enjoying time with her animals and craft activities such as sewing and knitting.

PictureIain Gillespie
Iain is one of our two Church Wardens.  He and his wife Christine have lived in Deddington for over twenty years since he retired from the RAF and took a post as a flying instructor at Oxford Airport.  He retired from that job in 2009 and now has much more time to devote to the church!   He also sings in the choir and looks after the management of events when the church is used for concerts, as well as changing light bulbs and other important things.

PictureJames Kennard - Director of Music
James has been Organist and Director of Music at Deddington since December 2018. He also has a strong interest in liturgy and worship planning. James has been involved with church music since he was at school and he is currently a member of the Oxfordshire Committee for the Royal School of Church Music. He is also co-director of The Wheatsheaf Consort, a choir which practices in Bloxham and sings in Cathedrals and Greater Churches throughout the UK. In real life, James is a doctor working as a GP in Banbury. He is married to Holly who also sings in the choir.

PictureHeather Nason
Heather moved from Oxford to this area in 1970, and then to Deddington in 2014. Heather has been playing the organ in Barford and Hempton churches for over 30 years. Heather sings with the Warriner Choral Society as well as in the church choir.

PictureStan Nelson
Stanley was born in County Durham. He has lived in Oxfordshire for 35 years and in Deddington for the past 14 years. He is a keen gardener and cricketer. Stanley spent 8 years as a church appointed governor at Deddington C of E school, and helped run the 1st Deddington Boys Brigade for a similar period of time. He is currently responsible for church Health & Safety.

PictureAngela Faint
Angela is a retired Speech and Language Therapist, who moved to Deddington from Adderbury 3 years ago. One of the main motivations for this move was that she had become a committed member of Deddington Church where she had found a much-valued fellowship. Angela has become a Server, a Sideperson and is also on the Social Events Committee. Her other passion is creating designs in glass.

PictureStephanie Dakin
Steph is a Professor leading a Musculoskeletal Research Group and Director of an MSc course in Musculoskeletal Sciences at Oxford University. Having been an equine vet for several years she is still a keen horse rider and tries to balance her life by being a cowgirl when she can. She has been worshipping at Deddington for 3 years and a PCC member for 2 years

PictureCaroline Condon
Caroline moved to Deddington 6 years ago following a visit to our church which she says, was the main reason she chose to live here!  As well as serving refreshments after the service once a month, Caroline chairs the church’s Social Committee which to date has raised over £3,000 for church funds since it was set up 2 years ago.

PictureOlivia Fenion
Having grown up in the village, Olivia is proud to have spent 30-odd years as a chorister at Deddington Church (she is older than she looks!). As well as Choir and PCC, Olivia also helps to maintain the Church Facebook page and social media updates, so do get in touch with her if you have any events to share.

PictureSue McCouaig
Sue relocated to the area from Suffolk in late 2014 (and to the village in December 2017) in order to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She retired from her role as a Finance/Admin Officer at a Christian school preceding this.  Sue became PCC Secretary at the church having been “volunteered” by her daughter.  Sue enjoys spending time with her family, bellringing, narrow boating and walking.

PictureHillarie Gogoi
Hillarie moved to Deddington from Lancashire in 2015, to live closer to family. She was a midwife in her early working years, then spent 20 years as a Registrar/Celebrant for marriages, retiring in 2013. Hillarie has varied interests and enjoys singing with the 'local vocals'.  The church family have made her very welcome and she looks forward to serving on the PCC.
