Fighting poverty through trade
Deddington Fair Traders, supported by the Parochial Church Council, work to support farmers and craftsmen in developing countries by selling their products in Deddington.
As part of the Traidcraft Fair Trader network, we promote and sell Traidcraft goods, all of which have been produced either in developing countries or using products (e.g. chocolate, tea, cereals etc) that originate overseas. A small stock, mainly of foodstuffs, is maintained and sold in the parish church on some Sundays and during the village's monthly Farmers' Market.
In addition, Traidcraft produce a comprehensive catalogue of fashions, jewellery, crafts, gifts and stationery which can readily be ordered through Deddington Fair Traders and delivered anywhere in the locality with no postage or delivery charge. Original designs, often tailored from hand printed material, can add an individual touch to any outfit whilst the attractive range of jewellery and accessories give a special finishing touch at very reasonable cost.
Particular emphasis is laid on the sale of high quality Christmas Cards which support a number of charities including Christian Aid, CAFOD and SCIAF and a wide range of gifts. These are on sale from September through to December.
Hand-crafted ornaments, furnishings and toys make useful gifts whilst the range of greetings cards and household stationery offer convenient ways of purchasing gifts, sending, or stocking up with basic necessities.
Everything offered by Deddington Fair Traders comes with the assurance that the producers have been paid a fair price for their goods and have not been pressured by commercial forces into selling at uneconomic prices.
The Fair Trade stall is in Deddington Church on the 4th Saturday morning each month, and usually once a month on Sunday morning.
